Op Art Heart Project
Since Valentines day is right around the corner, what better way to celebrate than making beautiful eye catching op art hearts. Op art or optical art is a style of art that uses optical illusions and implied shapes to make eye catching artwork. After learning a little about op art, you will choose a style of op art heart, draw it and color it with a mix of warm and cool colors.
Materials:
White paper
Markers, crayons, colored pencils or paint

OP ART
Op art, short for optical art, is a style of visual art that uses optical illusions. Op art works are abstract, with many better known pieces created in black and white. Typically, they give the viewer the impression of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibrating patterns, or of swelling or warping. Some of the most notable artists are Bridget Riley, Joseph Albers, Victor Vasarely and Richard Allen.

Op Art Heart Project
To start this project you will need to grab a white piece of paper and a pencil. In some cases you will need a ruler also.
Then look below at the different heart designs and decide on the one you would like to make. Follow the instructions and color in using a mix of warm and cool colors. Don’t forget to go over your pencil lines with a black sharpie or marker before coloring in. Look below for tips on using warm and cool colors for a striking design.
First draw a heart or trace this heart template by putting your paper over your computer screen. To make the heart bigger you can press control + on your keyboard.

The Hearts in this project look great if you use only warm colors for the inside of the heart and only cool colors for the area outside the heart, or vice versa. This simple step really makes these hearts pop!
